REVIEWS FOR LEGION OF TORTURE 4:
Fatal Underground (Germany). June, 2019.
TEROZIN ZINE (BUL) - ISSUE 2021
PSICOTERROR ZINE
https://psicoterror-reviews.webs.com/printed-matter
It is a well known fact how difficult is to do a zine in Southamerica. High costs, low interest, expensive shipping costs which make very difficult to do a proper distribution abroad, and a long etc. However, there are a few zines which still stand despite of that. Peruvian zine Legion of Torture is still one of the very few Peruvian publications which still remain active. Supposedly the editor was about to do only three editions but was inspired enough to do another one, and here it is. This time, you’ll find interesting and relaxed conversations with Black Magic Mountain Goat, Corpse Grinder, Infernal Execrator, Manzer/Shaxul, Nocturnal Vomit, Qassam, and the locals Rito Profanatorio, Disinter, Mortuorio, Repugnancia and Ritual. These chats are more directed towards a more fluid reading and deal with Metal, Metal and Metal, from different perspectives.
Knowing the high cost of Peruvian postage, the editor has chosen to put everything into just 24 pages, with small photos and even smaller font size. If you don’t have a problem with that, then go on. Other than that, this should be a good zine for those interested in Metal ad the diverse manifestations and anecdotes shared by band members.

Other than this site and a handful of others, none of the internet seems trustworthy to a listener like myself. Any relevant information has been drowned out by not just commercial messages, but virtue signaling, and lots of losers LARPing as important people with big opinions.
Legion of Torture Zine continues, as many underground zines are, to attempt to present an alternative to this commercial-ideological world that swallows up all quality and replaces it with obedience. Like most zines of this type, Legion of Torture is xeroxed on A4 paper, stapled together, with lots of art and photos but mostly, tons of text in the form of interviews, reviews, and news items.
In the current issue, the zine covers the following actors:
Black Magic Mountain Goat (SE), Corpse Grinder (BR), Infernal Execrator (SG), Manzer/Shaxul (FR), Isaak Insulter/Nocturnal Vomit (GR), Qassam (HU), Rito Profanatico (PE), Disinter (PE), Mortuorio (PE), Repugnancia (PE), Ritual (PE)
Printed in six-point font, with a logo by Mark Riddick, this zine emphasizes content over form and fits into both the old school method and the future, which is a network outside of the public networks. Metalheads need a way to communicate where commerce and ideology cannot reach, and at least for now, zines provide it.

REVIEWS FOR LEGION OF TORTURE 3:
Crypts of Eternity zine (Peru):
Legion of Torture fanzine # 3 (Perú). A4, English, Xeroxed. Juan Carlos, editor in chief (also Death Invoker vocalist), gives us this time his 3rd issue, which in comparison to their previous issues is much more loaded with information. The style of Legion of Torture is simple but very honest, it shows that it’s made with feeling, respect and admiration for what we call Underground, but I am referring to the depths of the worldwide underground, ie, JC is not interested on interviewing the bands of the moment, but focusing on the most unknown and / or new bands, but with great potential, especially in South America and Asia, so this fanzine can also be listed as "exotic". Most interviews are very complete and deep, JC almost never fails, so after reading these interviews all will end up overloaded with information. Another point in favor is the English. I imagine real English speakers would not find it perfect, but it follows the rules and everything is very understandable. This issue brings interviews with: Abhorrot (crushing band!), Caligula, Disinter (one of the best interviews with this band I ever read), Demonic Cremator, Sartegos, Paganfire, Necrofagore, Croix Mortis, Evil Spectrum… it also features many reviews, bios, live reports etc etc. Every time I read this fanzine, it reminds me some publications from the 90's for that feeling and attitude conveyed through its pages. In my point of view, this is one of the best fanzines in Peru. A serious zine from start to finish!

Legion Of Torture #3 (2011). 32pg, A4, xerox, English. Interview: Abhorrot, Caligula, Sartegos, Necrofagore, Demonic Cremator, Paganfire, Disinter, Croix Mortis, Evil Spectrum. The third issue of this Peruvian zine. Legion of Torture maintained the same size that they started from issue #2 (A4) and also the 'thickness' but don't be fooled with the amount of page (32 page only) because there are lot to read. Yes, small font size but not to the extent of torturing your normal eyes like Rites of Zygadena #1 ;-) Lesser bands for this issue and no "Ladies of the Underground" too since only Demonic Cremator replied for this issue. Interviews lengths are varied, some maybe just 16 questions and some have 30 questions. Reviews are very long which one of the thing I like in this zine. The reviews are separated by format and it covers both audio & zine. The reviews are numbered with number 105 as the last review. There are also 'last minute review' which uses band logo and I like this layout a lot. The reviews are not rated. There are local gig report and a long report of Infernal Curse S.E.A. tour in Manila contributed by In Death We Thrash 'zine. Overall, there is improvement on the layout because I don't like 1 column per page like in issue #2 because the text will too long in 1 line. Now with mostly 2 to 4 columns per page, there are OK. There are logos or artworks on the background and some with frame/page border. No TOC and page are numbered. I have few copies for trade and all copies are hand-numbered. Contact me if interested or contact the editor. Check out the past reviews for the contact address. Now it is 2013, more than 2 years have passed by. Maybe a new issue might be around the corner? I’m looking forward for the next one!
Nihilistic Holocaust webzine (France):

LEGION OF TORTURE #3. CORPSE CUNT NECTAR. Unholy juice of the flesh, appealing pulp of the morbid womb. CORPSE CUNT NECTAR. Strongly boiling in the depths, we'll extract you to the light. We are the womb extirpators. The deep cavern infiltrators. The livid cream canalizators.
These are the lyrics' lines I could use if I played in a Gore metal band la old EXHUMED (Especially split with Hemdale... Wouldn't it be nice to hear the "Corpse cunt nectar" chorus with both low gory and high-pitched crazy vocals at the same time?) but I don't, so let's write a review. LEGION OF TORTURE is an underground fanzine I read since a few issues, the editor is also involved in other underground activities such as a small distro/ tape label, and a band (Death invoker), so we do some underground business. The content of the zine is focused on old school and Underground (Did you see the underlined capital letter "U"? It's important) metal, without much love for things modern... The tastes show positive opinions for the kinds of metal that were born in/ or derived from the 80's of 90's genres. To the contrary of some retro zines, L.O.T might be a bit wilder, and the editor happens to be talkative and send some piles of questions (Bricks?) in the face of the interviewed bands (Victims?); so this can be quite filled with infos and stuffs... Now the English isn't perfect, so it could bug your cranial underground adapter if you didn't get the version able to translate quite "fukked" English (Well, I exaggerate a bit, with a little effort you can understand). I should also say the content is a bit too underground/ conservative for my tastes and I occur to wonder were the juicy aspect or the "G-point" are located in some of the bands' music, but it could be a matter of radioactive tastes (And I'm possibly turning a bit old, and lazy, and not giving a care if music doesn't speak to me instinctively and instantaneously?), but now my vomiting of personal thoughts is over I can say it could also please deep Underground (Did you notice the "U" in capital underlined letter? It's important) maniacs because there's quite a lot of content and it might not be as usual as some too-encyclopedic necro metal zines. These 32 x A4 pages also contain quite a lot of reviews, and some live reports. The layout was done with a computer, with small sized text: On a visual point of ice-pick it's not fancy, but it's compressed and no space is wasted. I think you have enough infos to judge if your internal Geiger counter could be attracted by the radiations of L.O.T. It's time for me to hunt more corpse womb, hope my rancid vaginal waves detector won't bug and lock me on ugly bulldogs this time... Interviews: Abhorrot, Caligula, Disinter, Demonic cremator, Sartegos, Paganfire, Necrofagore, Croix mortis, Evil Spectrum...

32 pages, A4 size, English written. Interviews: Bestial Rape (ECU), Anarkhon (BRA), Persecutor (CHI), Non Serviam (PER), Demoniac Slaughter (PER), RIP (PER), Warlock's Voice (FIN), Goat Tyrant (POL), Insacred (MAL), Slaughter Messiah (PHI) + Ladies of the Underground section + Tortures from the Old East section + Arts of Torture section + Reviews + Gig reports.

Legion Of Torture #2 (2010). 32 pg, A4, xerox, English. Interview: Non Serviam, Insacred, Bestial Rape, Goat Tyrant, R.I.P, Demoniac Slaughter, *Demona, *Morbid Tales Zine, Warlock Voice, Slaughter Messiah, Persecutor, Anarkhon, *Circle Of Destruction Zine. Looks like a thin zine but to due reduced font size (at a readable size of course) and no space waste with nicely done computer layout, there are a lot to read in this 'Nearer The Death' Chapter. Probably double the size if using the normal size font. There are also cut n paste style but not in a chaotic arrangement. The zine is mostly in 2 or 3 columns per page while gig report is one straight line (very long line since the font is small which I don’t really like this style). Postage is the reason for making this issue as thin as they can but at the same time also giving a lot of stuff to read. It took quite some time to finish reading this issue. Good xerox quality. Full version of Slaughter Messiah will be a good read. The pages are numbered but no table of content. On the last page the are some info on zines. The editor is also good in 'playing' with words. You can see that from the title of every column. "Live Torture" is gig reports section. Some 6 gigs being reviewed with good to read stories happening during the event. And also the reviews, "Die By Legion Of Torture" (audio review), "Metal Meleficarum (The Scrolls Of Torture & Death)" (zine review). These reviews are not in alphabetical order and not rated. There's also "Tortures From Old East", a reviews of old Eastern Europe metal by Holger Fleck from Germany. If you wondering what are those asterisk marks on the interviews above, they are from a section called "Ladies of The Underground". No need for me to elaborate that because I know what that means. The zine might be costly to order I think. Mine hand-numbered 29/100. By the time of this review, I still have few copies for trade. Contact me if interested. The rest you can contact JC, the editor.

REVIEWS FOR LEGION OF TORTURE 1:
Tulum Codex (Poland)
https://tulumcodex.blogspot.com/2014/09/legion-of-torture-1-2009.html
April 2009, 40/A5 pages, xeroxed, English, interviews: INFERNAL CONJURATION, EVIL DAMN, PATHOGEN, LANTERN, RECRUCIFY, NECROFUCKER.
Pretty old stuff here, as this Peruvian zine has been unleashed into the metal area five years ago. This meeting is my first contact with a piece of underground press coming directly from the land of the Incas, but general impression is simply good. Maybe LoT isn’t something unique, for sure it isn’t a shit too. And the only person responsible for these words of metal is Juan (also in the Death Invoker band) bringing inties with unknown South American bands, from the deepest gulfs of the underground, on the other hand, I can admire six page Iron Maiden report. Yes, these Gods of heavy metal were playing in Lima for the first time on 2009, 26th March, and everything has been listed by Juan himself. And believe me, it is a real pleasure in reading such words full of passion, devotion, variation and childish joy sometimes. In addition, Juan interviewed Valentina, the member of Peruvian Iron Maiden fan club, and the first person who entered the gig. Anyway, I consider Juan a brave man. Including such commercial (!) item and the band always can be a bone of contention among the metallers and the ‘trve’ ones. But I don’t give a shit about them!
Ok, let’s back to the rest. My main complaints refer to so-so English. It’s not a difficult task to find language mistakes or just common typos, but I know the next issues of Juan’s work and I can assure that this beast will improve it definitely. The interviews are good, I mean, I just like the questions he asks, strictly to the bone and with no ass-licking. And the best one is the first intie with Mexican Infernal Conjuration due to long and full informative answers. Juan delivers 22 musical reviews and 15 pieces of press, not too much indeed, all rather short although the author has always interesting and frank point of view, bringing a proper insight what is all about.
As the debut, it’s a decent thing. Juan took the main influences directly from the old times: cut’n’paste method, some biographies (Goat Tyrant, Incisor, Bastardator), flyers. Fortunately he didn’t give up and released another two issues, both improved a lot, in A4 format, and more controversial due to bands answers. Great to hear that the four is scheduled, I hope to read it soon!

Legion Of Torture #1 (2009). 40 pg, A5, xerox, English. Interview: Infernal Conjuration, Evil Damn, Pathogen, Lantern, Recrucify, Necrofucker. Bio: Incisor, Bastardator, Non Serviam, Goat Tyrant, Afflictis Lentae. I'm reading this zine backward. I mean I started with issue #2 (latest issue) first. I noticed the changes of size from A5 to A4 for the new issue which a good. I also noticed the editor, JC, already made his own trademark since the debut issue, that 'rrroooarrrgggg' word without the 'h' at the end of the word, which he keep on writing on every interviews and some reviews. Different name used for some column such as "Necronometal" for the zine review. Reviews are not rated. No page number and no table of content. Small fonts, 1 column per page, simple hand-drawn frame art. Spaces are very well used so again the size of this zine will be more than 40 if made the normal way. Some pages are full of flyers. Good questions being asked, considering this is a debut issue. The xerox quality is just OK. The best of this issue is the review of the first Iron Maiden concert in Peru. I really like the reviews which describe the atmosphere of the gig, etc beside the usual report on band's performance on stage. JC even interviewed the first person to enter the venue. Now I know, you have to be fit if you want to enter such big concert if you want to get a good spot. You need to run for it! Although only 6 questions asked but they are very long one. Mine hand-numbered #66/80.
Satanic Malediction zine #7 (Brazil):
A maioria do material deste zine, e de origem peruano (principalmente nos reviews) mas ha espaco para bandas de outros paises como LANTERN (FIN), PATHOGEN (PHI), INFERNAL CONJURATION (MEX). As outras 3 entrevistas (sao 6 no total), sao com RECRUCIFY (PERU), EVIL DAMN (PERU) & NECROFUCKER (PERU). Biografias do INCISOR (Malaysia), BASTARDATOR (CAN); mais flyers. Reviews de demo-tapes, Cdr e fanzines. Gig report do IRON MAIDEN no Perú. Para quem conhoce o poderio na cena peruana, provavelmente dara un gram apoio a este zine. Preto/branco xerocado com boa qualidade. Recomendavel! Editado pelo Juan "Morbid Devastator" Carlos (V/B do fudido DEATH INVOKER - Black/Death Metal band).
Temple of Adoration zine (Germany):
Legion of Torture- Zine # 1: As I got informed this issue is almost sold out but as the second one is about to be released I promised to review number 1 as a kind of support and I must admit I had forgotten to do that earlier. Which does not mean that the magazine lacks of quality. Hell no, definitly not. It`s a newborn zine done by a guy behind Death Invoker. A morbid Death Metal act which gained some attention with a great demo tape and fabolous split CD. The second demo is just released by the way. This zine features interviews with Infernal Conjuration, Necrofucker (pre-Anal Vomit), Pathogen, Evil Damn, Recrucify and Lantern. Demo bands mostly but some names a underground devotee should have heard of. The english skills are okay, nothing I would mind about. The interviews are informative and far away from being boring. A very good start for a debut, he did a better job than many (including myself 7 years ago with my first zine). Cut and paste layout, bunch of reviews and flyers. The zine seems to be old like from very past days of Metal. 80 copies were available.
Ave Satan #1 (France):
First issue for this Peruvian fanzine, made by Death Invoker/Evil Spirit distro guy. Killer interviews with Recrucify, Evil Damn, Pathogen, Necrofucker, Infernal Conjuration, and an amazing Iron Maiden gig report! This guy is a true maniak!!! Moreover, some reviews are included, mainly fanzines. I am totally convinced by this first assault and waiting for the second one. Great work, great answers, great and evil spirit!
Necroscope #24 (Poland):
The zine created by my good friend, not only when it comes to the underground, but also footbal topics! Juan Carlos comes to you from Perú, he is pure Metal freak, strongly intended to the underground ( he plays in DEATH INVOKER band too), thus we can be sure about correct feeling and attitude of the LEGION OF TORTURE zine. The debut issue is released in rather modest, raw form and I like it very much, since it's comparable to my poor works, haha! The reading content is classical as well. I have to admit Juan makes very good interviews, especially when we are talking about debut work! I can suspect my friend had to make some other zine(s) before this one... Furthermore, the selection of the bands shows great musical (Metal) tastes of our friend, most (if not all) hordes, here perform killer, extreme/underground Metal, therefore it's only pleasure to read conversations with INFERNAL COJURATION, EVIL DAMN or especially RECRUCIFY (because I think to interview them for the next issue)... Apart of interview, the issue brings us some reviews, not too many of them however he include some unknown, mostly Southern bands, it's worth to read about them! Also some biographies, including polish GOAT TYRANT for example, and finally long, full informative report from IRON MAIDEN in Lima - Perú! We can realize from the report how strong support IRON MAIDEN has in Perú; amazing report! Conclusion? I encourage everybody into the underground and Extreme Metal to get in touch with Juan; we maniacs have to keep in touch!!!
Evil's Best zine #2 (Israel):
Legion of Torture#1 (Xeroxed, English-written, A5 size, 40 pages, 2009): That’s the very same zine you’ve read about in the Death Invoker interview. What could I write about a zine that has z full page ad of Evil’s Best? Killer!!! Now seriously – not bad at all English level for a South American zine, not much usage of CAPITALS-WRITTEN WORDS (JAJAJAJAJA!!!!) and excitement and devotion that can be felt in anything JC writes, especially the detailed description of Iron Maiden’s gig in Peru (1st ever)! There are a couple dozens of reviews of mainly unknown demo bands and interviews with INFERNAL CONJURATION, EVIL DAMN, PATHOGEN, NECROFUCKER, LANTERN and RECRUCIFY. Some of the stuff is cut n’ paste and some not, with little amounts of space waste. Support this zine!
